Fishing and the 5 ponds

All the ponds have good populations of strong, healthy fish. The Model Boating pond can be particularly good for specimen carp and tench

Species

Plentiful silver fish: Roach, Perch, Rudd, Gudgeon.

Larger specimens: Tench and Bream to 10lb plus.

Trophy fish: Carp approaching 40lb and Pike of 20lb

Methods

Float fishing is a particularly good method with maggots, corn, worm, bread, hemp and tares all being proven baits for silvers and tench.  Feed a little groundbait then ascertain the depth and fish a waggler float on, or close to, the lakebed where the feed has settled. Loose feed little and often to get the fish hunting and competing for the bait.

Carp anglers use boilies and pop-up corn over a blanket of loose fed particles. Floating baits such as dog biscuits can be very successful when the conditions are right but always be very aware of birds picking up the hookbait!

Traditional dead sea baits for pike either floatfished or legered are always successful. Please note that spinning and lure fishing is not allowed

A word on the rules

An Environment Agency rod licence and City of London permit (available online) are required. Barbless hooks only. No braided lines. No spinning. Clean the swim after fishing – discarded hooks and line are a threat to birds and will jeopardise fishing further. The Heath provides dip nets to avoid the spread of disease. Courtesy to other Heath users at all times, please.
