HAHAS runs another family fishing lesson
On Saturday 24th June eight HAHAS members turned out on the banks of the Model Boating Pond for a three-hour session teaching local families to fish. Some of them had attended our Give Angling A Go day in October last year and wanted to learn more.
The children in the lesson ranged in age from 6 to 12. We made sure to teach their parents as well, since they would need to know what to do if their children wanted to go fishing again.
Apart from helping everyone catch a few fish, we wanted to teach them about licences and permits, how to set up tackle and how to tie basic knots. For those who mastered fishing with a whip, we planned to teach them how to cast with a rod and reel.
The session was a great success, and our families all caught plenty of roach, rudd and perch, plus the inevitable crayfish. Everyone enjoyed it and we got some good feedback afterwards. It’s likely that at least some of our attendees will be back to fish on Hampstead Heath in the future.
