Fish were elusive at our Give Angling A Go day but the attendees still enjoyed themselves
On Saturday 07-Sep-2024 HAHAS ran its third annual Give Angling A Go day on the Model Boating Pond on Hampstead Heath. In this event we give novice anglers a 40 minute introductory fishing lesson. Some attendees book in advance but we also teach people who turn up on the day.
In the overcast conditions there were fewer people about on the Heath than normal. As a result, we were less busy than last year, teaching 35 people during the day compared to 47 in 2023.
Fish were also quite hard to come by, with a long spell in the middle of the afternoon when they seemed to stop biting altogether. Some people missed their only chance of the session as they happened to take their eye of their float at the precise moment that a fish pulled it under.
We had some good feedback afterwards:
“As a family we took part in Give Angling a Go’ event today in the Heath. We’ve all really enjoyed it. My son Thomas especially. But we all had a brilliant time. Thank you for organising the event!”
“Thanks so much for the fishing on Saturday - the kids absolutely loved it.”
“Thanks for Saturday. Cormac and I really learned a lot.”
“Thanks for having us on Saturday. Wilfy really enjoyed himself and of course catching two fish was amazing for him.”
“I wanted to thank you for an amazing introduction to fishing. Harrison had such a great time and was very disappointed to hear that it wasn’t something that I signed him up to for every Saturday!”
“Jenson had a great time. Thank you so much!”
Thanks once again to the City of London Corporation, the Angling Trust and the Environment Agency for helping us run this popular event.
