Hot weather makes it challenging
Plenty of sport, float fishing with maggots, for silver fish (roach, rudd and perch) on the Boater, Men’s Swimmer and No2 pond, as well as some large carp to mid-20s, falling to a specialist approach, occasional tench also showing. Small tench and rudd in the Viaduct pond. Several good carp from the Vale pond. HAHAS Chairman, Bob Gibbs, managed a brace of 8lb bream from the Men’s Swimmer on float fished maggots over ground bait - in 11ft of water, 2 rods out form the south bank.
The searing heat of high summer made daytime fishing a challenge. This, coupled with scores of unauthorised swimmers, made it best to fish either very early or late in the day. The water levels continued to drop alarmingly during this period.
Unauthorised swimming made fishing impossible during the hot summer and now the water levels are around 0.75m down on their usual height and the colour of the Boater is red-brown with poor visibility. Sustained rain is desperately needed.
